Abstract

|
Estrogen receptors were assayed in tumors from 25 patients with primary gastric and 27 patients of primary colorectal adenocarcinomas using dextran-coated charcoal separation. 6 of 25 (24.0%) gastric adenocarcinoma contained estrogen receptor,
while 4
of 27(14.8%) in colorectal adenocarcima. The tendency of receptor positivity was more with progression of tumor and lower differentiation in gastric adenocarcinoma. In colorectal adenocarinoma, all cases of receptor positive were male, well- or
moderate-differentiate, and positive lymph node metastasis.
DNA ploidy using flow cytometry was also assessed in 9 cases of gastric and 15 cases of colorectal adenocarcinoma, but there was not clear correlation between receptor status and ploidy.
The experimental model observing the sequential changes of tumor progression might be indispensable for the identification of the role of estrogen receptor whether it affect as causative factor or phenotypic expression.
